Who is to blame for WWI?
Austria-Hungary |
Serbia |
Germany |
Some people believe that Austria-Hungary was to blame for WWI because they over reacted when Prince Ferdinand. Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne at the time of his death. He was assassinated in Bosnia by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Black Hand society. Princip was trying to drive Austria-Hungary out of Bosnia because Serbia wanted to have Bosnia so that they could then unite all the Slavic countries.

Some people believe Serbia is to blame for not stopping the Black Hand and for not meeting Austria-Hungary's demands after the assassination. Also, some believe it is Serbia's fault because they did not hand over the Black Hand or take care of the society themselves. Russia came in to help Serbia which also provoked Austria-Hungary to bring in their allies and turn things into a World War.

Germany was brought into the war to aid Austria-Hungary. A while back Germany had given Austria-Hungary the blank check that promised Austria-Hungary military support from Germany in the event of a war. Serbia was being protected by Russia, who had an alliance with France, which meant that Germany was surrounded. People believe that Germany is to blame because they already had plans on how to invade France before the War started and the Kaiser was known to perhaps be a bit crazy. Germany went full out with its military attacks and some believe that Germany got too carried away.

The Leaders |
Everyone |
One of the more modern beliefs is that the leaders of the various countries that were involved in the War are the ones to blame. The general population should not be accused of something their leaders did in which they had no say. Not everyone agreed with the ideals of the rulers of their countries.
|
All the participating nations are to blame for World War I because they all played a role in it. They all attacked or protected one another and so it cannot be only Germany's fault or Austria-Hungary's, or Serbia's fault. They are all to blame.
